Every year in the NFL players who get benched demand to be released. Most teams wait till the off season to deal with the problem. Not the Denver Broncos and not John Elway. Everyone knows that Kyle Orton lost his starting job to Tim Tebow. Orton than demanded to be released and the Broncos granted it to him. Now, the Broncos face the Chiefs in week 17 for a chance at the playoffs. This would have been a much easier game if Kansas City had not signed Kyle Orton.
NFL teams are a business. Businesses need to earn a profit. Playoff games mean big money for NFL franchises. Releasing Kyle Orton saved the Broncos some money, but it’s nothing compared to what they’ll lose if they miss the playoffs. I’m a big John Elway fan. What he did for Kyle Orton proves he is a nice guy. The problem is, nice guys sometimes miss the playoffs.
The Broncos are still in the drivers seat to make the playoffs. Even if the Chiefs manage to win the game on Sunday, it’s still possible for Denver to win the AFC West. It’s obvious Denver is ready to move on from the Kyle Orton era. It just might take one more game before the relationship is officially over.
It’s clear John Elway wants to do things with class in Denver. He’s a two time Super Bowl champion and a hero to Bronco’s fans. The way he handled the Kyle Orton situation shows the type of leader Elway is. I just hope his kindness doesn’t come back to hurt the Broncos against the Chiefs.
